Great day today! Woke up decently early and played some Skyrim with Cailey. We then got ready and left on trains and tubes (making sure we did the AC ones) and went to the National History Museum!
When we got there we explored a small exhibit with bugs and bats that was cool. We then made it to the best area, the dinosaurs. They had a lot of amazing fossils and history and cool stuff to explore with Cailey. The Iguanodon, T Rex, Stegosaurus, Deinonychus, Deinocheirus, and Ankylosaurus were the most complete archeological records, but I also enjoyed the Parasaurolophus, Allosaurus and Pachycephalosaur. Cailey got to enjoy my happy face, lots of dino facts, and lots of trying to see if she could pronounce words. They had some animatronic replicas of some dinos that were interesting to look at, and some replicas you could touch. Cailey baffled me when we were in the gift shop by correctly naming a marine reptile, Plesiosaur, without me even hinting at it, it was a very nice surprise to hear her showing off the knowledge I constantly spout out to her about ancient life. That was an amazing place to go through. We then went through mammals, which was fun to go through and had some cute animals too. We then went through marine life and that had a lot with whales and dolphins that were interesting.
We walked past a small section of prehistoric marine life, which was interesting, but the part I wanted to see was at the end of the hall. They had a complete and standing fossil of a Megatherium, easily my favorite extinct vertebrae ever, they're giant ground sloths! Walked through a bird exhibit and finally made it to the second best section!
They had a human evolution section, which I had to study and understand extensively for Biological Anthropology, so I was familiar with the material and was interested in it. Some of my favorites were Paranthropus evolution (boisei, robustus and aethiopicus), some non-hominin chimpanzees and other primate skulls, and the Neanderthal skulls. My complete favorite in this section was Lucy, a Australopithecus afarensis that showed early signs of primate relation to humans and our upright stance. Another absolute favorite was Mrs Ples, an Australopithecus africanus skull, my favorite human evolution. They also had a cool skull replica map of human evolution from Sahelanthropus to Homo Sapien Sapiens.
We saw Sophie the Stegosaurus right outside the human evolution section! We then went through a few small exhibits that included volcanoes, earthquakes, gems and natural change. At the end we got to see the fossil of an Enigmacursor, a recent dino discovered last year! So that was cool to see. Went to the gift shop and I got myself a mini Spinosaurus head, deck of cards, stuffed animal Velociraptor and a cool mug.
Finally got home and played more Skyrim, Cailey killed her second dragon and we did a lot in the College of Magic. Had smorgasbord for dinner, then played some pool, and lost to Cailey in Scrabble by 164 points.
